Our Story

From a vision to serve our community's youth, MSA Youth Academy Australia has grown into a structured Islamic youth development program for young Australians.

How MSA Began

MSA Youth Academy began in October 2024 as Miraj Scouts Academy, a community-led youth program that combined the adventure and skill-building of traditional scouting with deep-rooted Islamic values and character formation.

The response was immediate. Within weeks of launching, 120 young people enrolled and over 100 more joined the waitlist. Through 2024 and 2025, the program grew, the leadership team built up, and the curriculum found its shape.

In October 2025, the organisation formally incorporated as MSA Youth Academy Australia Limited, an Australian public company limited by guarantee, not-for-profit, with its own constitution and governance. The rebrand brought a clearer identity: four age groups (Explorers, Seekers, Strivers, Pioneers), three pillars (Islamic Personal Development, Life Skills, Sports), and a structured 8-week term calendar.

In Term 1, 2026 we launched under the new name and structure, leaders-only for that first term, with parents joining from Term 2. Today MSA serves young Australians aged 6 to 17, supported by 65+ volunteer leaders, with 208 kids across 126 families on the waitlist.

Term 2 (starting Friday 31 July 2026) is our first parent-inclusive term, and the launch of the new Pioneers (16 to 17) program. We're also working on opening additional MSA System branches as the program grows.

Our Mission

MSA Youth Academy Australia develops the next generation of resourceful, confident leaders grounded in Islamic values.

We are cultivating khalifa, integrated individuals who master themselves, serve their communities, and excel in every domain of life.

Our Vision

A community where every young Muslim has the opportunity to develop their full potential, spiritually, intellectually, physically, and socially, through structured youth development that honours both their faith and their Australian identity.

Our Values: MSA

Mentorship

We believe growth happens in relationship. Older members guide younger members. Leaders invest in Troops. Parents partner with us. Everyone has someone to look up to and someone to lift up.

Strength

  • Physical: Courage to try, endurance to persist
  • Mental: Focus, problem-solving, perseverance
  • Emotional: Self-regulation, resilience
  • Moral: Doing what's right when it's hard

Achievement

We strive for excellence in all endeavours. We set goals and accomplish them. We pursue mastery, not perfection,in practical skills, spiritual disciplines, and intellectual pursuits. We celebrate progress and honour effort.

A Unique Approach

Islamic Foundation

Our curriculum is built on Islamic principles of character development. We don't just add Islamic content as an afterthought,it's woven into everything we do.

Cross-Age Integration

Our units are designed so a 6-year-old Explorer learns alongside a 15-year-old Striver. Older members naturally mentor younger ones.

Real Skills, Real Challenges

We teach practical outdoor skills: fire-building, navigation, first aid, shelter construction. We challenge our Troops physically and mentally.

Australian Context

We're raising Australian Muslims. Our program connects young people to the Australian landscape through bushcraft, camping, and outdoor adventure.

Professional Standards

We're a registered not-for-profit with formal governance structures. Our leaders undergo training and screening. We have clear policies and child safety protocols.

Governance

Founded by a group of community leaders and governed by a board of community directors, MSA Youth Academy is built and run by volunteers from the Muslim community.

Day-to-day delivery is led by a team of coordinators and trained volunteer leaders across our units, supported by an admin team that handles operations, safeguarding, and family communications.
