Our Story
From a vision to serve our community's youth, MSA Youth Academy Australia has grown into Sydney's leading Islamic youth development organisation.
How MSA Began
In October 2024, a group of dedicated community members launched what would become MSA Youth Academy Australia. The vision was clear: create a youth development program that combines the adventure and skill-building of traditional scouting with deep-rooted Islamic values and character formation.
The response was overwhelming. Within weeks of launching, 120 young people enrolled—and over 100 more joined our waiting list. Parents were hungry for a program that would develop their children's capabilities while nurturing their Islamic identity.
What started as a Friday evening program has grown into a movement. By Term 2 of 2025, MSA serves over 220 young Australians aged 7-21, supported by more than 50 volunteer leaders and ground staff. Our 97% member retention rate speaks to the impact we're having.
In October 2025, MSA Youth Academy Australia formally established itself as an independent not-for-profit company limited by guarantee—ensuring our autonomy, sustainability, and ability to serve our community for generations to come.
Our Mission
MSA Youth Academy Australia develops the next generation of resourceful, confident leaders grounded in Islamic values.
We are cultivating khalifa—integrated individuals who master themselves, serve their communities, and excel in every domain of life.
Our Vision
A community where every young Muslim has the opportunity to develop their full potential—spiritually, intellectually, physically, and socially—through structured youth development that honours both their faith and their Australian identity.
Our Values: MSA
Mentorship
We believe growth happens in relationship. Older members guide younger members. Leaders invest in Troops. Parents partner with us. Everyone has someone to look up to and someone to lift up.
Strength
- Physical: Courage to try, endurance to persist
- Mental: Focus, problem-solving, perseverance
- Emotional: Self-regulation, resilience
- Moral: Doing what's right when it's hard
Achievement
We strive for excellence in all endeavours. We set goals and accomplish them. We pursue mastery—not perfection—in practical skills, spiritual disciplines, and intellectual pursuits. We celebrate progress and honour effort.
A Unique Approach
Islamic Foundation
Our curriculum is built on Islamic principles of character development. We don't just add Islamic content as an afterthought—it's woven into everything we do.
Cross-Age Integration
Through our House System, a 6-year-old Explorer learns alongside a 15-year-old Striver. Older members naturally mentor younger ones.
Real Skills, Real Challenges
We teach practical outdoor skills: fire-building, navigation, first aid, shelter construction. We challenge our Troops physically and mentally.
Australian Context
We're raising Australian Muslims. Our program connects young people to the Australian landscape through bushcraft, camping, and outdoor adventure.
Professional Standards
We're a registered not-for-profit with formal governance structures. Our leaders undergo training and screening. We have clear policies and child safety protocols.
